Mill Creek Recreation Area (Dunkley Falls AKA Black Hole)
The Town of Johnsburg acquired this 200+ acre parkland from the Open Space Institute in 2012. The forested land runs along the Hudson River and includes train tracks which connect the former Tahawus titanium mine in Newcomb, NY to Saratoga Springs. At the southern end of the park the land is divided by Mill Creek, a popular fishing stream, which separates the forested area bounded by Riverside Station Rd. and the popular day use picnic swimming area known locally as Dunkley Falls and the Black Hole. The larger, forested portion of the park is undeveloped; the swimming area has been heavily used. Future plans look to develop multi-use trails throughout the woods with parking at the north end near the railroad station and mitigating the erosion at the Dunkley Falls area caused by overuse.
The Falls are a popular swimming spot on a hot summer day! Located off Harrington Road, just south of Wevertown. This is part of a 200+ acre parcel that is part of the Town of Johnsburg Park System. Day use only.
